Add Structure
As a user who can get caught up in details, I need headings so that I can get an overview of page content.
Overview
Web site users scan the page rather than reading all the content. Adding headings and lists helps to create a visual hierarchy.
Tips for creating better headings
- Headings should be short and concise
- Headings should only be used when followed by content
- By reading the headings alone users should get a good idea of the page contents
- Headings should be mainly used for page specific content, rather than content which appears on every page
Tips for creating better lists
- Use a mixture of ordered and unordered lists
- Ordered lists are good when providing instructions, for example:
- Read each paragraph in your page
- Decide which paragraphs can be presented as a list
- Convert paragraphs to lists
