Siteimprove Accessibility Checker
Usage
Excellent for checking pages in combination with Chrome's inspect tool.
Installation
- Open Chrome
- Go to the Chrome web store
- Search for 'siteimprove accessibility checker'
- Click '+ Add to Chrome'
WAVE Toolbar
Usage
Excellent for checking page headings, form labels, alt text and table headings.
Installation
- Open Chrome
- Go to the Wave toolbar download page
- Click on '+ Add to Chrome'
axe Core
Usage
Useful for text automation.
Installation
- Go to the axe download page

WCAG Contrast Checker
Usage
Useful for checking the color contrast between foreground text and the background.
Installation
- Open Firefox
- Go to the Contrast checker download page
- Click on '+ Add to Firefox'
- If a yellow bar appears at the top of the screen, saying that installation is blocked, click on 'Allow'
- A pop-up window will appear as the plugin downloads
- Click on 'Install'
- Click on 'Restart Firefox' to complete the update
Firebug Toolbar
Usage
Allows CSS and source code inspection and manipulation.
Installation
- Open Firefox
- Go to the Firebug download page
- Click on '+ Add to Firefox'
- If a yellow bar appears at the top of the screen, saying that installation is blocked, click on 'Allow'
- A pop-up window will appear as the plugin downloads
- Click on 'Install'
- Click on 'Restart Firefox' to complete the update
ChromeVox
Usage
Allows developers to view which areas of the screen have keyboard focus and hear what is read out to screen reader users.
Installation
- Open Google Chrome
- Go to the ChromeVox download page
- Click on the 'FREE' button and then 'Add'
- ChromeVox will be installed as a Chrome extension
- Note: to turn ChromeVox off go to 'Settings' > 'Extensions' and then uncheck 'Enabled'
