The Just Energy Transitions stream examines the implications of the low-carbon energy transition in relation to sustainable healthcare systems and practices. It explores the challenges and opportunities of energy transitions to simultaneously bridge gaps in climate action, social equity and inequalities within and between countries.

Reihana Mohideen - Principal Advisor, Social Implications of Technology (Infrastructure and Resilience), The Nossal Institute of Global Health, MDHS

  • Dr Reihana (Sithy) Mohideen is an electrical engineer and expert on low-carbon energy transition in Asia and the Pacific, with specific expertise in developing integrated socio-technical approaches to examine resulting impacts on gender equity and social inclusion. She is currently working with the Nossal Institute for Global Health on a project to strengthen urban resilience, based on integrating infrastructure, energy and health systems.

Ajay Mahal - Head of Emerging Programs in Global Health, The Nossal Institute of Global Health, MDGS

  • Professor Ajay Mahal is an economist with over 25 years’ experience in health systems and policy research and evaluation. His recent research has focused on evaluation of health system interventions. Ajay's research interests span a range of economically relevant questions pertaining to household and national level impacts of (ill) health, human resources for health, fiscal-federalism and health, and social protection. He has also been engaged in collaborative research on the intersection of clinical epidemiology and household economics.

Peter Annear - Professor (Honorary), Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, MDHS

  • Professor Peter Annear was previously Head of the Health Systems Governance and Financing Unit at the Nossal Institute for Global Health. Now retired, he continues to support the Nossal Institute in project activities, student supervision, mentoring and other staff-support activities. Peter is a health economist and health financing specialist with more than 30 years experience working in international development.
