  • “Alumni” is the word we use for our community of past students. At the University of Melbourne, it is a community of more than 500,000 people worldwide who have studied with us and continue to stay connected.

  • Broadly, alumni are former students or graduates of the University. Once you complete a qualification, you automatically become part of our alumni community – lifelong network of peers and ongoing opportunities for further connections.

  • No. Membership to the alumni community is automatic and free for all who meet the criteria – to get started, create your UniMelb account and confirm your details. Once eligible, you’re part of our alumni community for life.

  • Yes. Alumni membership is broader than just graduates – it includes some former students who meet certain criteria. For example, if you have completed one year of full-time study (75 points or more), but did not finish your degree, you are considered an alum. For full details, visit our Alumni FAQs page.

  • Keeping your details current ensures you’ll receive event invitations, exclusive benefits and alumni newsletters.. You can update your contact information at any time through your UniMelb account.

  • There are many ways to get involved – attend events, mentor students, join an alumni group, share your story or support scholarships and research through giving. Explore opportunities on our Stay Connected page.
