Introducing universal design for learning (UDL)

Workshop information

Description

The purpose of this workshop is to expose beginners to the concepts of UDL and generate a positive commitment toward UDL practice.

This workshop is for

Academic staff who are coordinating or teaching subjects. Other staff are welcome.

Intended learning outcomes

  • Define UDL
  • Describe the three main principles of UDL
  • Explain why the UDL approach can be valuable for learners
  • Modify existing subjects using UDL principles.

Content not covered

This workshop is not a deep dive into digital accessibility, or even a deep dive into UDL. We are happy to build custom workshops to do that.

Recommended background knowledge

No prior knowledge of UDL is required, but we assume that attendees have taught at university, and are familiar with tertiary teaching practice (for example, rubrics, writing learning objectives).
