Description
Aligned with ASE Strategy’s commitment to “embed more frequent small-group, inquiry-based learning activities within subjects, particularly medium and large subjects” this workshop will introduce you to practices that cultivate teamwork, enhance critical thinking, and foster a dynamic learning environment such as Team-Based Learning (TBL), Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) in groups, effective group formation, group activity facilitation methods, and troubleshooting common challenges. You will also see some of the educational technology that can help facilitate collaborative learning in this context.
This workshop is for
Subject coordinators who want to embed collaborative learning practices in their subjects
Subject coordinators who want to review and or enhance their current collaborative learning practices
Staff who teach in tutorials/workshops who want to improve their facilitation skills of student group work.
Intended learning outcomes
Apply collaborative learning practices such as TBL and group IBL in the design of their subjects.
Content not covered
- Designing group (summative) assessment
- Detailed instructions for setting up educational technology.
Recommended background knowledge
- A basic knowledge of social constructivist principles
- Experience in the challenges posed by collaborative learning is beneficial.
