Co-design learning using Kaospilot
Facilitating learning design using Kaospilot’s Vision Backcasting methodology.
Faculty

Overview
Facilitation of learning design workshops with faculty staff and students for two separate programs of work.
KaosPilot’s Vision Backcasting methodology was used to help refocus efforts made by the Collaborative Practice Centre to revise their Interprofessional Education and Practice curriculum.
The methodology was also used to facilitate the co-design of a (soon to be released) mandatory module for MDHS students going on clinical placements.
Kaospilot is a highly collaborative facilitation method for designing learning experiences and environments that are principally student focused. It can be used to conceptualise and design anything from short learning experiences or professional training to entire award courses.
Actions/activities
Workshops typically run in 3-hour blocks and over multiple weeks but are customised based on stakeholder needs and intended outcomes. They are highly interactive, require rich input and a variety of stakeholders is encouraged (for example, students, professional or/and support staff, teaching academics, subject matter experts etc).
The design takes place on a physical ‘map’ (which our team digitises) and incorporates principles of design thinking and constructive alignment enhanced by a stronger focus on desired student ‘attitudes’.
Outcomes/impact
At the end of a series of Kaospilot workshops, teams have a clear direction for the learning experience they are designing. Learning designers can further enhance this by facilitating the development of learning materials, activities and interactions to realise the agreed design.
