How to get started

  1. Choose a subject copy from the list below.
  2. Select the enrol now link (staff login required).
  3. Go to the subject copy in Canvas LMS and explore.

Once enrolled in a subject copy you can:

  • Watch a short video from the subject coordinator explaining the design
  • Explore the full LMS layout, teaching materials and activities in student view
  • Undertake an optional guided review activity
  • Access templates, resources and support to help uplift your own subjects.

Already enrolled? You will find your Open Classrooms subjects on your Canvas LMS Dashboard.

Open Classrooms is a joint initiative of the Office of the DVC Education with Teaching and Learning Innovation and Faculties

    • See your subject through fresh eyes: Explore how students experience LMS design and delivery in other subjects—then reflect on how your own students might be engaging with yours.
    • Borrow what works, adapt what inspires: Discover practical examples of inclusive design, scaffolded assessment, and media use that you can tailor to your own discipline and teaching style.
    • Enhance LMS design and delivery: If you’re unsure about how your LMS site compares, Open Classrooms gives you a safe, supported way to explore best practice and make improvements.
    • Connect with colleagues across faculties: Join discussions that foster peer learning, idea exchange and collaborative innovation.
    • Align with strategic priorities: Showcase your subject’s alignment with the Framework for Educational Excellence and the Advancing Students and Education Strategy—great for promotion and recognition.
    • Get support, not just exposure: Attend workshops and use templates developed by Teaching and Learning Innovation team to uplift your subject —this is a developmental opportunity, not a performance review.
