Module 2: Assessment and GenAI for educators
Examine AI’s limitations and use them to stress test and strengthen your assessments.
The following content is accurate as of DATE. Due to the evolving nature of Generative AI, information can change rapidly within a short period. Consequently, some of the content maybe outdated. The module content will be periodically updated to reflect the current landscape of GenAI.
This module is building upon the skills and content taught in module 1. You will be testing the current limitations of GenAI and then using the skills developed to evaluate one of your assessments, by refining the assessment and exploring its vulnerability to GenAI.
What you’ll need
This module should take 20-30 minutes to complete.
You will need access to either:
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of the module, you should be able to:
- Identify and evaluate the practical boundaries of GenAI through testing and reflection.
- Assess and refine a current assessment task by exploring its vulnerability to GenAI.
GenAI considerations
For an in-depth introduction to what GenAI is and some of the concerns in teaching and learning, see our navigating GenAI resource.
However, there are still some considerations you should keep in mind when using GenAI:
- Accuracy: GenAI’s output may be inaccurate or biased. You should always check its output carefully.
- Copyright: You should consult the University’s AI and copyright policy before uploading any copyrighted material to a GenAI tool. Please note that student work is their intellectual property and can also be considered as third-party material.
- Privacy: You should avoid uploading anyone’s personal information into any GenAI tool. Please refer to the University’s privacy policies.
- University policies: For using GenAI in teaching and learning, especially for assessment and feedback to students, please check the using AI in teaching and learning policy.
- Acknowledging GenAI use: GenAI use should be acknowledged clearly on any material in which GenAI tools were used in their creation.
For more information on policy and appropriate use, please visit the University’s GenAI decision-making tool.
