Statement from the University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne acknowledges the Final Report and Principles from the Expert Council on University Governance.

We commend the Expert Council for developing a comprehensive set of Principles that provide a valuable framework for continuous improvement and sector-wide adoption of best practice.

A well-governed and effective university system is essential for Australia’s continued prosperity as a nation.

We recognise that strong governance practices are fundamental to our institution and the higher education sector.

As one of Australia's globally leading research-intensive universities, the University of Melbourne is committed to a culture of continuous improvement in institutional governance, which extends throughout the University to our faculties and institutes.

We will engage with the Final Report and Principles as part of this process of continuous improvement.

We look forward to continuing to work with governments, regulators, staff, students and other stakeholders to maintain strong and effective governance practices across the University.
