Goulburn Valley

Our partnership with the Yorta Yorta Nation is built on many years of deep engagement with key Indigenous organisations and community leaders in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria. It represents our regional work in supporting Indigenous social, economic and cultural advancement with and for the communities we serve.

Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence

Located on Yorta Yorta Country, the Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence is a visionary education, sport and cultural precinct developed by Kaiela Institute, Rumbalara Football Netball Club and the University of Melbourne. Munarra (meaning ‘thunder’ or big, powerful sound in Yorta Yorta language) brings together community-led learning and leadership development grounded in Yorta Yorta values and aspirations.

Munarra offers a place for young Indigenous people to feel empowered through education, cultural identity and is a site for programs, research partnerships and on-Country learning.

Academy of Sport Health and Education

Established in 2004 through a partnership between Rumbalara Football Netball Club, GOTAFE and the University of Melbourne, the Academy of Sports Health and Education (ASHE) offers a culturally safe educational setting for young Indigenous people. The University provides academic support and organisational strength, embedding flexible community-driven curricula.

Dungala Kaiela Oration

The Dungala Kaiela Oration, co-hosted annually by the Kaiela Institute and University of Melbourne, celebrates Aboriginal identity and promotes development in the greater Goulburn Valley region. The Oration talks to the power of opportunity and collaboration. It shines a light on the Nanyak, the invincible spirit of the Yorta Yorta and other First Nations peoples in promoting a path for prosperity and productivity within an inclusive respectful society.
