International Symposium on Disaster Management 2015

The aim of the symposium was to present and discuss the latest innovations, research and practice related to disaster management. The Symposium provided an opportunity for delegates, practitioners and researchers to exchange new ideas and experiences face-to-face; to establish business and research relations; to extend existing partnerships and to find new global partners for future collaboration.

During the event, the symposium also celebrated the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and marked the day by focusing the presentations on disaster risk reduction activities and research.

The theme of the conference was Working Together for a Safer World and this was shown through the attendance from a number of international delegates and the extensive expertise present.

I thank the University of Melbourne and the major sponsors Carlton Connect and IBM Research Australia for their support and contributions to the symposium. I also extend my thanks to our broad range of international and local supporters from government, industry and academia for attending and contributing to the event.
