In the past two years, the University of Melbourne has moved from 11th to 6th place in the global rankings, and is the leading institution in Australia for employer reputation with a score of 97.9 (out of 100) for that element.

Professor Glyn Davis, Vice-Chancellor, said that the result was a testament to an ongoing, single-minded focus on delivering a world-class university education to each and every student.

“Our vision as a university is to deliver excellent graduates through a combination of broad undergraduate studies supplemented by postgraduate specialisation,” he said.

“In doing so, we aim to excel in academic results and deliver the highest quality graduates. We are delighted that the latest employment rankings have reflected this goal.”

Professor Davis added that the University remains focused on producing graduates with a “highly desirable and employable blend” of technical and interpersonal skills.

“Professional life for graduates is becoming more complex, and universities must equip their students with a more diverse skill set," he said.

“In a crowded marketplace, our specialised postgraduate qualification helps our students stand out to employers, delivering to the highest standard from the start of their entry to the workforce.”

The QS Graduate Employability Ranking is based on five elements: employer reputation, alumni outcomes, partnerships with employers, employer-student connections and graduate employment rate.
