A message of thanks from Brigette Sancho

A message of thanks to our alumni, volunteer and donor community for all your contributions during 2022.

Brigette Sancho

As 2022 draws to an end, we want to thank our amazing alumni, volunteer and donor community for their support and commitment as we continue to advance education and research at the University of Melbourne.

Almost 3000 alumni have volunteered their time through mentoring, on boards and committees, hosting events and acting as reunion coordinators. Over 2000 alumni have given their time to support our students and young alumni through mentoring alone.

Over the past year we celebrated the culmination of the Believe campaign and we are immensely grateful to over 29,000 members of our alumni and donor community who contributed generously.

Your support has broken down barriers for students from diverse backgrounds to access higher education, enabling them to thrive at university. It has supported cutting edge research and discovery and transformed our campus by improving our learning spaces, performance areas, laboratories and teaching facilities.

We have witnessed discoveries to aid the prevention of stillbirth, the rescue of endangered species and research that will inform and improve dementia treatment, to name just a few stories of success.

The immense impact of the Indigenous Law and Justice Hub, formed through Melbourne Law School, has successfully defended vital Indigenous rights, and influenced law reform with support from generous donors. The Hub continues to grow and seek new ways to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Our Alumni Associations and Networks have been actively engaging local alumni communities across the globe including in Melbourne, Sydney, London, New York, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing – connecting alumni with local communities, providing opportunities to network with each other and industry peers.

Our commitment at the University to tackle global challenges and provide a positive step forward into 2023 is more evident than ever, and we could not do it without our alumni and donor community.

We wish you the very best over the summer break and look forward to what 2023 will bring for our University community.

Regards,

Brigette Sancho
