About
The Women in Engineering and IT Alumni Network is a group of female-identifying alumni who offer support and guidance to women in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology – and the broader industry. Their mission is to encourage women pursuing engineering and IT professions, support women engineers and IT professionals to realise their ambitions, and inspire future generations to help change the world and address global engineering challenges.

Janet Karroum
Janet graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2005 with a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Mechanical and Manufacturing (Hons) and has pursued a career in a variety of manufacturing industries. She has nearly 10 years of experience in the engineering and continuous improvement management in the aerospace sector. Janet is an active founding member and co-chair of Women in FEIT.
Evelyn Tao
Evelyn graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Civil Engineering. She is now a project engineer working on the Next Generation Tram project at the Department of Transport and Planning. She is passionate about optimizing and innovating transport networks to address traffic congestion, improve public transit systems and enhance overall transportation efficiency.
Maharti Triharta
Maharti is an engineer and researcher with 15 years of experience in the global upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, followed by a transition to environmental engineering and sustainability. Currently pursuing a PhD, her research focuses on sustainable career pathways for female engineers considering the timing of having children. Additionally, she is working on government-funded, industry-led research collaboration projects.
Sunita Rani
Sunita is a dedicated educator with over 10 years of teaching experience. She has worked as a sessional academic at several prestigious universities in Australia and India, including Deakin University, The University of Melbourne, RMIT and Arya Girls’ College, which has allowed her to gain valuable experience working in a multicultural environment. Her versatile skill set positions her as an invaluable asset in any setting.
Allison Sutherland
Allison is an experienced clinician scientist and biomedical engineer. She has conducted doctoral research in vascular remodelling in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. Allison completed her engineering studies at the University of Melbourne and has since developed her own biological therapy with a focus on clinical reconstructive and regenerative medicine, immune reprogramming and biofabrication technology.
