Liam Byrne

BA(Hons) (2012), PhD (2017)

Since being awarded his PhD in 2017, Liam has remained engaged with the alumni community as a volunteer mentor in the Welcome to Melbourne program, which has been an extremely rewarding experience for him.

A major motivation for Liam joining the Council is his desire to help further develop and expand similar programs that draw upon the skills and experience of the alumni community to support students who are beginning their scholarly journeys. He is particularly eager to identify means to draw upon the alumni community to provide career mentorship for university students – an area he has worked in over the past few years as a volunteer with the Centre for Multicultural Youth.

Liam is also driven to build on the potential for further public engagement within the alumni community, as the community possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise that the University can bring together as a community of ideas. He would like to work to draw upon this knowledge and expertise to showcase the value of university education across society.
