Noel grew up in Cagayan Valley in the Philippines, where typhoons and floods were a constant. That sparked his interest in climate resilience. He studied a Bachelor of Science, majoring in meteorology, and worked as a weather forecaster. Now he is completing a Master of Climate Science.

Noel loves making science less intimidating, including through his current work as a mediator at Science Gallery Melbourne. Back home, he co-founded an atmospheric society at his university. During the pandemic, he launched MetTalks, a series of interviews with meteorologists.

As a Wattle Fellow, he is building a playful climate storytelling project for children in Philippine farming and fishing communities. Stories, games and local weather memories will make climate science feel less scary and more useful at home.

Noel is a self-described climate and weather nerd, with a soft spot for people and corny jokes.
