Makenzie White (she/her)

Bachelor of Laws (Honours) / Bachelor of Arts

Makenzie is studying a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University. She became an activist at twelve, joining School Strike 4 Climate and marching with 250,000 people in Melbourne. She has advocated for human and non-human life ever since. Her focus now is the harm fast fashion does to people and the planet.

She makes textile and fibre art, including a piece called Hand Me Down Clothes, so she knows the hours that go into a single garment. She also served as a student representative on Virtual School Victoria's inaugural school council, advocating for better funding for students with disabilities.

Through Wattle, Makenzie wants to build a hands-on community project. It will use textiles to shift how we value the work, and the people, behind the clothes we wear.

Away from study, she loves any excuse to make art, spend time at her family's farm in the Strathbogie Ranges and dance at live music gigs.
