Jade Smith (she/her)

Jade is studying a Master of Arts & Cultural Management, after having completed a Bachelor of Arts (History & Ancient World Studies) and a Diploma of Languages (Russian). Through Wattle, she hopes to foster the creation of community-led systems and structures to support sustainability in the independent arts, whilst remaining responsive to the needs of diverse and marginalised communities.

Her interest in the environment is informed by her semi-nomadic rural background, having grown up travelling Australia before settling in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley. She currently works at Melbourne Fringe Festival, and is a member of the Green Room Awards Independent Theatre Panel.

During her undergraduate, Jade was a resident at Ormond College, where she was involved with various student clubs and initiatives, notably including those relating to arts, diversity, and student welfare. She is a regular alumni spokesperson for The Smith Family, including on ABC News Breakfast and ABC Radio.

In her spare time Jade can be found seeing theatre, reading a book, exploring Google Earth, or wandering the Merri Creek.
