David Wotherspoon (he/him)
Master of Design & Production
David is currently completing his Master of Design and Production (Stage Design) after having recently moved to Melbourne (Naarm) from Queensland. He is passionate about environmental accountability within theatre design, and as a part of the Wattle Fellowship, he aims to continue exploring sustainability within theatre design practices. He often spends his spare time going to see theatre, or reading, sewing, knitting, and doing other crafts.
He is a co-founder of Inscape Assembly, a Brisbane (Meanjin) based theatre collective, and has fulfilled a wide range of roles within theatre. David also has a keen interest in immersive experiences, having worked on several, including Brisbane Immersive’s Cluedo: The New Suspects, as an intern, and Inscape Assembly’s award-winning OBERON 11, as the producer, director and designer.
In 2022, David combined his interests in immersive experiences and environmentally accountable design with a practice-led research project into the intersection of Punchdrunk’s site-sympathetic approach with the place-based methodologies of Tanja Beer’s Ecoscenography, resulting in two of his design seed concepts being showcased at World Stage Design 2022 in Calgary.
