Alex Wood

Interested in agrifood systems which benefit the environment and people, Alex is a self-professed science, comms, and policy nerd. He hopes to spend his working life with farmers and consumers to build healthier crops, soils, and ecosystems.

Studying a Bachelor of Science majoring in Agricultural Science, Alex’s Wattle Fellowship will focus on producing biochar for its value in soils improving biology, soil structure, and carbon sequestration.

Outside Wattle, Alex works in communications and is passionate about education in raising environmental awareness. He is also the founder of the Soil and Plant Society (SAPS), which aims to achieve this goal amongst university students and beyond.

Alex is at peak happiness reading a book about plants/soil, looking at plants/soil in a field, or hiking around Vic looking at plants/soil. Occasionally he picks up a guitar and strums a tune, although ashamedly is yet to write one about soil.
