Alex Wackrow (she/her)

As a future architect, Alex wants to work on designing more sustainable buildings built for energy efficiency and longevity. The construction industry makes up a huge proportion of greenhouse gases and Alex hopes to reduce the impact of the sector.

“I find it fascinating how architects can take inspiration from natural systems to develop more sustainable buildings. I would love to be a part of research on and projects utilising these ideas.”

Alex is also a co-founder of the small business Sprout selling Compost Powder that makes composting easier and more accessible to those living in urban areas. The team won the top prize  in Sustainability at the New Zealand YES National Student Business Awards. Alex is excited to continue and expand the business through the Wattle Fellowship this year.

In her spare time Alex can be found drawing, painting and spending time with family at the beach.
