Students imagine their future at Open Day

Students at the University of Melbourne

Aspiring students will get a glimpse into life as a University of Melbourne student when the Parkville and Southbank campuses come alive for Open Day, Sunday 17 August.

Visitors will be able to explore the University with more than 400 interactive experiences on offer designed to help students plan their own University of Melbourne journey.

Open Day showcases the full breadth of study options and diverse career pathways that the Melbourne curriculum makes possible, giving future students an opportunity to meet lecturers, researchers and current students.

Accommodation tours provide insights into on-campus living options, while sporting clubs, student societies and the student experience hub showcase how being part of the university community enables students to pursue their interests and connect with peers.

Visitors with a taste for the unexpected can explore demonstrations, performances and exhibitions that include bringing eighteenth century art to life with mechatronics, watching witness examination, detection dogs and 3D printed robots in action, or tasting liquid nitrogen ice cream as they brush up on their language skills to consider student exchange in their dream country.

University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Professor Emma Johnston AO says Open Day is an essential experience for students to become familiar with the University of Melbourne as they discover how much is on offer.

"Open Day lets our future students see where they can take their education and start to imagine the possibilities for their future.

“Our Parkville and Southbank campuses come alive with a festival-like energy as our next generation of students and their families join us to explore, ask questions and experience University of Melbourne life for a day.

“Current students, teachers and researchers will be on hand to discuss study options, provide insights into career pathways, and the breadth and depth of our curriculum which equips our graduates to be adaptable, creative problem solvers ready to embrace and shape our changing world.

“Visitors are invited to explore our state-of-the-art campuses embedded within world-class research and innovation precincts to see how students collaborate across disciplines to address real-world challenges in health, sustainability, technology and beyond. They’ll hear from academics at the forefront of discovery and experience the vibrant energy of campus life.

“This is an opportunity to connect, be inspired, and imagine your future as part of our global alumni network of more than 500,000 graduates.”

Visitors are encouraged to register and build a personalised schedule using the Open Day planner, which includes session search tools and map links to help navigate the day.
