How the proposed Voice to Parliament may interact with government and enhance Australia's system of representation will be discussed by independent member for Kooyong Dr Monique Ryan MP, Former Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet Terry Moran AC, Former Clerk of the Senate Dr Rosemary Laing, and SNAICC - National Voice for our Children CEO Catherine Liddle at the upcoming Conversations about the Voice event.

Hosted by the Centre for Comparative Constitutional Studies (CCCS) at the Melbourne Law School on Tuesday, 2nd May, the in-person and online event will draw on legal and other professional expertise to inform Australians ahead of the referendum vote later this year.

Co -convener and Director of the CCCS, Professor Jason Veruhas said: “This second conversation will tackle the issues raised by the interaction between the Voice, government and Parliament in a way that is grounded in an understanding of how government and Parliament really work.”

“We are very pleased to be joined by four participants with significant experience in the processes of Parliament and the complexities of executive government, and look forward to continuing to inform public understanding of this proposed constitutional change.”

Conversations About the Voice is convened by barrister Timothy Goodwin, Laureate Emeritus Professor Cheryl Saunders AO and CCCS Director Professor Jason Varuhas , who will be joined by panelists Dr Monique Ryan (Federal member for Kooyong), Catherine Liddle (CEO of SNAICC - National Voice for our Children), Terry Moran AC (Former Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet) and Dr Rosemary Laing (Former Clerk of the Senate) for the upcoming event.

Following the successful first event in April, this second discussion will continue to inform debate on the upcoming Voice referendum. The events are interactive, providing an opportunity for audience members to have their questions answered by leading constitutional law experts and panelists with unique perspectives.

Conversations about the Voice events will take place throughout the year, with each discussion focusing on a core aspect of the reform proposal.
