University closure for one-off public holiday on 22 September

Clocktower

Following the Government’s declaration, the University will be closed for the one-off public holiday on 22 September 2022.

Faculties are providing further information to students and staff regarding activities scheduled for next Thursday, noting the existing Grand Final public holiday on Friday 23 September.

Due to the public holiday having been declared at short notice, the University is making sure that casual employees are not out of pocket as a result. We recognise that many of our casual colleagues were scheduled to work on 22 September prior to the Government’s declaration and were relying on the anticipated income.

In light of the specific circumstances of this one-off public holiday, we are going beyond our Enterprise Agreement obligations on this occasion. All casual hours that were rostered before the public holiday was declared (on Saturday 10 September) will be paid at the normal casual rate. This payment will be provided even where the hours of work can be rescheduled and separately paid for work done on another day.
