Determination and resilience pays off as 2022 student offers are released
Five courses at the University of Melbourne – the Bachelors of Arts, Science, Commerce, Biomedicine and Design – are ranked in the top 10 most popular courses for domestic students in Victoria, according to Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) first preference applications for 2022.
After a challenging final two years of secondary school, this afternoon VTAC released first round domestic undergraduate offers, with 46,010 applicants receiving a tertiary course offer this year.
The University of Melbourne offered places to 6214 domestic students from 713 different secondary schools, including 2029 who received offers for the Bachelor of Science and 1621 for the Bachelor of Arts.
The Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship for the highest-achieving secondary school students also continued to prove highly popular, with the University making 125 offers to eligible students.
University of Melbourne Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Gregor Kennedy said the University attracted many incredibly talented students from diverse backgrounds, with its five largest undergraduate degrees – Science, Arts, Commerce, Biomedicine and Design – all issuing course offers to students with ATARs of 99.90 or higher.
“Congratulations to every student who received an offer today following another year of significant disruption to your studies. Your resilience and determination are remarkable and you should be immensely proud of your efforts.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming our most diverse cohort of students yet, who will be inspired and supported by some of the world’s brightest minds and will consider and wrestle with some of the biggest challenges facing the world today.
“More than a quarter of all offers made today are to students eligible for our Access Melbourne program, which provides students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds with increased opportunities to join the University.
“The popularity of our courses is also a continued endorsement of our unique Melbourne Curriculum, which equips and inspires students for the workplaces of the future. 10 per cent of our offers to students were for our Graduate Degree Packages, which allow students to enrol in their desired undergraduate course and upon completion have assured entry into a nominated graduate program.”
The University of Melbourne is looking forward to welcoming students to campus in Semester 1 and has planned for the majority of its subjects in coursework programs to be available on campus for both new and returning students. In addition, an exciting range of activities and events are scheduled to help students get involved in university life, connect with others, and feel at home on campus.
Due to the delayed release of HSC results, offers will be made to domestic students from New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory in the VTAC February offer round 1 domestic on 1 February.
Students who have received a course offer from the University of Melbourne today have until Monday 24 January to accept, and students still looking to secure course entry are able to change their preferences in VTAC for future offer rounds. Further Change of Preference information is available here.
