Following the successful inaugural exhibition season of BLOOD: Attract & Repel, Science Gallery Melbourne is calling for proposals from the arts, science and design community for its 2018 exhibition and public program season, PERFECTION.

The exhibition, scheduled to open in late August 2018, will explore the human need to strive for perfection through the lens of artists, psychologists, musicians, designers, mathematicians and surgeons.

Proposals from practitioners of all disciplines working in the science-art space, or looking to extend their practice and collaborate with partners across the STEM or arts sector, are welcomed.

Themes include symmetry and systems, design, visions of utopia, mathematics and physics, biohacking, body augmentation, virtual reality and digital media.

Embedded at the University of Melbourne, Science Gallery Melbourne is part of an award-winning, international initiative with a common mission to ignite creativity in young people, where science and art collide.

Galleries across the globe – in cities including Dublin, London, Venice, Bengaluru and Detroit – generate exhibitions and programs derived from the local artistic and scientific community, which are then shared through the network and beyond.

The Perfection exhibition program will be held at various locations around the University of Melbourne campus and Melbourne’s CBD from August to November 2018, ahead of the opening of an innovative new gallery space at the corner of Swanston and Grattan Streets, Carlton in 2020.

Submissions open on 3 November 2017 and close 2 January 2018. Further information is available on the Science Gallery Open Call website https://opencall.sciencegallery.com.

Science Gallery Lab Detroit, a new initiative of the global Science Gallery network, is also seeking submissions from across the globe, for its inaugural program, Hustle, at Michigan State University.
