About the Cybersecurity team

Cybersecurity at the University of Melbourne is about more than just systems and software – it’s about people. While the University invests in strong technical protections, our greatest defence is a community that knows how to spot risks, ask questions, and act safely online.

Our work includes:

Operations and Capability

Builds and runs the technical controls that proactively defend the University from cyber threats. Keeps a watchful eye via the University’s 24/7 Cyber Security Operations Centre and deploys to rapidly respond to active threats.

Governance, Risk and Compliance

Manages risk, assurance, and compliance obligations, as well as governance controls such as policies and technical standards.

Advisory

Provides tailored cybersecurity advice across the University for staff, students, researchers, and partners. The team identifies threats, assess risks, and recommends controls to embed security into daily operations and strengthen the University’s defences.

Engagement

Educates and engages with the University community to increase awareness and improve cyber culture.

Whether it's protecting personal data, research or critical systems, our team is here to help keep the University secure and resilient against cyber threats.
