Map of the Month
Delivering a monthly ‘map’ of greater Melbourne
The 'Map of the Month’ will deliver a monthly ‘map’ of greater Melbourne providing mapping, science communication, and convening support to the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation (LMCF). In this pilot seven maps of greater Melbourne will couple with the themes of LMCF Non-For-Profit Impact Hub, providing data for action-based activation.
Building on existing models overseas, and background scoping work already delivered by the Centre to LMCF, the ‘Map of the Month’ will spark science-policy conversations reflecting on the real impact on our metropolitan region.
This pilot has been funded by Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation.

Our Map of the Month shows key 'bumping spaces' - libraries, neighbourhood houses and community Centres - in Greater Melbourne.
Data sources: Data Vic (open spaces), Australian Bureau of Statistics (Local Government Areas and Melbourne boundary), Neighbourhood House Victoria, Public Libraries Victoria, OpenStreetMap (road data and community centres).
This month's map was produced by Amanda Belton, Dr Emily Fitzgerald and Flavia Barar.
Bumping Spaces Build Community - We need to pay them more attention (Pursuit)
Social Connection needs time and effort, but crucially it also needs meeting places, and our Map of the Month highlights that not all Melbournian's have equal access to these 'bumping spaces'
In South Africa, the Gauteng City Region Observatory (GCRO) developed the first 'Map of the Month' project on which this project is based. It has consistently delivered on this approach since 2011.
