About Zheng

Zheng is a PhD student in the Decision, Risk and Financial Sciences Program at the Centre for Brain, Mind, and Markets, University of Melbourne.

Zheng’s research centers on the temporal evolution of decision-making and metacognition (confidence) in economic and financial contexts. His current research directions include:

  1. Examining how computational complexity and proof hardness shape the time dynamics of decision and confidence in complex, economic problem solving.
  2. Investigating option pricing in laboratory markets to uncover systematic patterns and sources of mispricing.
  3. Exploring the behavioral and neural correlates that underpin how decision and confidence develops over time in financial tasks.

Prior to his PhD study, Zheng studied finance, economics, and mathematics at Pennsylvania State University and completed a master’s degree in economics at the London School of Economics. He subsequently worked as a research assistant at Harvard University on experimental economics projects in intertemporal choice, cognitive uncertainty, and confidence. Zheng also worked at Deloitte for two years developing quantitative financial models and algorithms for regulatory and financial institutions.

Outside of research, Zheng enjoys cooking, exploring new cuisines while travelling, and both playing and watching competitive Dota 2, the game that first brought OpenAI to prominence before ChatGPT (doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.1912.06680).
