How can we ensure trust in the metaverse from an ethics and privacy perspective via regulation?
The metaverse requires natural persons to use avatars, which also contain digital identity of the users, as digital representation for metaverse transaction and interaction. Authentication of the person behind the avatars becomes crucial to build trustworthiness in the platform, and prevent identity-related attacks. However, various authentication mechanisms tend to prioritize security and usability in metaverses over users’ privacy. With privacy and security holding important aspects of trust for customers, finding a balance in regulatory design between protecting privacy and other objectives such as driving innovation and maintaining a secure metaverse environment is significant. My research project aims to analyze the privacy risks associated with current technology used for digital identity, and assess the regulatory design options for digital identity in the metaverse, focusing on Indonesia.
When I am not working on my project, I love to spend time with family and friends, networking, go travelling, or watch movies.
