AI governance
Generative AI governance
The University’s response to the risks and opportunities associated with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools and systems is overseen by the Generative Artificial Intelligence Taskforce (GAIT).
GenAI has the potential to impact across all parts of the University’s Strategy. GAIT coordinates activities across three main focus areas: Education, Research and Workforce and Operations. Chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), members include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (People and Community), the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Information Officer, the Academic Registrar and representatives from the research portfolio, enterprise performance group and organisational development.
University of Melbourne AI principles
Developed by GAIT, the AI Principles are intended to support decision-making in relation to AI tools and technologies across the scope of the University’s activities and help guide actions around their adoption and use.
