What exactly is podcast hosting?

A podcast hosting platform stores and distributes your podcast episodes online. It provides the necessary tools to upload audio files, generate your podcast’s RSS feed, and publish episodes to major podcast directories like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.

At Video and Media, we use a hosting platform called Podbean where we can set up and individual channel for your show and host audio and video podcasts.

As part of this service, we will:

  • export high quality video and audio files for you;
  • upload and host all files to our podcast hosting platform; and
  • publish and generate an RSS feed for your podcast.

Ready to publish? This is what we need from you.

To publish your podcast on our hosting platform, we require podcast and episode titles, descriptions and artwork from you. Make these assets as engaging as possible - you want to grab your audience's attention and get them clicking on to your podcast!

👇 Read the instructions below to find out more about what you will need to provide.

  • A podcast description is a brief summary that tells potential listeners what the podcast is about. It highlights the main topics, tone, and target audience, helping people decide if they want to listen.

It also appears on podcast directories and platforms to attract and inform listeners – so it’s a good idea to make it sound as interesting and appealing as possible.

    Example title:

    A Third Place

    Example description:

A podcast celebrating libraries as vital “third places” inspired by the idea of “third spaces.”

Sociologist Ray Oldenburg coined the term “third space” to describe social environments separate from home and work — places where community, conversation, and connection happen naturally. A Third Place riffs on this idea, focusing on libraries as welcoming, vibrant environments that nurture learning, creativity, and belonging.

Created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the University of Melbourne’s Baillieu Library, this podcast features captivating conversations with distinguished University alumni—from the groundbreaking philosopher and author Peter Singer to erudite Australian actor Alice Garner—sharing their stories and reflections on the power of these special places.

  • Episode Title

The episode title is the first thing potential listeners see in podcast apps and search results. It names your episode in a way that’s clear, engaging, and relevant to the content. A strong title quickly tells people what the episode is about and entices them to click play.

    Example title:

Peter Singer – Ideas, Arguments, and the Baillieu Library

    Episode Description

The episode description (sometimes called show notes) is a short written summary that explains the content, key topics, and any featured guests. It can also include useful links, resources, and calls to action. This text appears under the episode title in podcast directories and players.

    Example description:

World-renowned philosopher and animal rights advocate Peter Singer returns to his undergraduate days at the University of Melbourne, recalling the Baillieu Library as both a place of study and a social hub—complete with late-night protests, unexpected discoveries in the book stacks, and even a little romance among the shelves. Singer reflects on the vibrant culture of debate that shaped his thinking, from spirited arguments with political opponents to the importance of hearing and understanding views we disagree with. He shares why libraries, cafés, and campus pubs were essential “third places” in his education, and why universities must continue to foster spaces where challenging ideas can be exchanged freely.

  • Please refer to the University's brand guidelines for information on podcast branding at this link.

    Technical specifications:

    • File type: JPEG or PNG
    • Dimensions: Minimum 1400 × 1400 pixels, maximum 3000 × 3000 pixels (square format)
    • Resolution: 72 dpi (dots per inch)
    • Colour mode: RGB (not CMYK)
    • File size: Under 500 KB recommended for faster loading

Please note - it is a great idea to include your show name and/or logo/branding in your podcast artwork so that it is clear what your show is called and is instantly recognisable.

    Example artwork:

A blue square with the words 'A Third Place' in large white letters in the middle. There is a University of Melbourne logo in the top right corner.
