University named Victoria's top exporter
The University of Melbourne has been named the Victorian Exporter of the Year at the 2019 Governor of Victoria Export Awards. The University also won the International Education and Training category.
The awards were announced by the Governor of Victoria, Linda Dessau AC, at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne last night.
Vice-Chancellor Duncan Maskell said both awards recognise the exceptional work of staff and students who contribute to the University’s export achievements, helping to ensure it is a University for the world.
“At the University of Melbourne, we’re proud to educate students from more than 130 nations around the world. All of the international students at the University add to the vibrancy and diversity of our campuses and communities. Domestic students have the added benefit of studying alongside international students who assist the local students in preparing for lives and careers in a global environment.
“The University of Melbourne’s export story is also one of research – international collaborations are a foundation of research that addresses the contemporary challenges faced by nations and people around the world. International graduates from the University move across the world and contribute to important business, development and political connections that advance Australia and the region.”
Professor Maskell added that international students are an important part of the University’s alumni.
“The University is proud of its international alumni who in many cases have go on to be leaders in their fields of business, government and local communities. Our international alumni foster links with our domestic students that form the global connections that will drive a more collaborative world in the future.”
The Governor of Victoria Export Awards are the most prestigious export awards in Victoria.
Now in their 40th year, the awards reward the state's most successful and innovative exporters. Winners of the 13 categories are automatically placed as finalists in the Australian Export Awards, which will be held on 3 December 2019.
