How to use the new web publishing templates
The Web Centre provides a suite of templates to help university staff publish user-focused, accessible information on the university website. Follow these steps to ensure that the templates are used correctly:
Step 1- plan site development
If you are using the templates as part of a site development/redevelopment project:
- first plan your web development process before downloading the templates
- attend relevant web training courses to gain required site development skills
- ensure that your organisational unit has Dreamweaver 8 or above
Step 2 - attend templates training
As of mid 2007, Dreamweaver template training is no longer being offered. General Dreamweaver training is available through FLASS.
Step 3 - select the correct template
Select the appropriate template type according to
- the site's branding and technology requirements
- the site's user activity and user information requirements
Read the template strategy for background information about why each template type was developed.
Step 4 - download the templates package
Login to templates download by entering your staff email username and password to access the templates package. We are tracking who uses the templates so that we can offer assistance as appropriate.
Step 5 - use these tools and guidelines to help you
- Templates style guide - demonstration of html styled page content
- Development tools - includes email munger, link checker, validators, colour chart and character entities
- Web publishing policies and guidelines - (draft) document to help you develop compliant web pages
- Template types - images and descriptions of the different web publishing template types
