Theatre Board

1. MEMBERSHIP

Chairperson - nominated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (University Affairs)
Two student members nominated by the Melbourne University Student Union Limited. (MUSUL)
Cultural Services Manager, Union Theatre
Artistic Director, Union Theatre
Dean of the Faculty of Arts (or nominee)
Arts officers of the MUSUL
Up to three members co-opted annually by the Theatre Board
Two members nominated annually by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (University Affairs)
One member nominated by the Standing Committee of Convocation

If a member is absent for three consecutive meetings without leave of absence, that person ceases to be a member and the position must be filled by a further appointment.

2. TERMS OF REFERENCE

  1. To advise Council, through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (University Affairs), on all matters concerning the development, co-ordination and encouragement of theatre within the University community

("University community" means members of the University and persons having an association with the University)

  1. In general to take initiatives that will encourage the development and sustenance of theatrical activity within the University community and in particular:

    2.1 to encourage the widest possible participation in all aspects of theatre among members of the University community;

    2.2 to promote the highest possible standards in all aspects of theatre;

    2.3 to enable theatrical groups consisting principally of members of the University ("University groups") to bring productions to an audience with a minimum of financial difficulty;

    2.4 to sponsor and support experiment and research in all aspects of theatre in the University or by University groups or individuals who are members of the University or members of a University group;

    2.5 to assist such University groups and individuals to negotiate with, and make applications to, grant-giving bodies; and

    2.6 to make recommendations to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (University Affairs) for the disbursement and allocation of funds made available for its purposes.

  2. To administer the Murray Sutherland Fund (Regulation R6.72[302]) (the Vice-Chancellor has appointed the Board as the Committee for the Fund) and the award of the Louise Homfrey Prizes (Regulation R6.72[58])
  3. To assist public performances of music by groups within the University (other than performances organised by the Faculty of Music)

3. MEETINGS AND OPERATIONS OF THE COMMITTEE

 The Committee normally meets eleven times a year.

The Committee reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (University Affairs).

Administrative support to the Committee is provided by Central Secretariat.
