Donor: The Scholarship was established by the Botany Foundation from donations by friends and associates of Professor John S. Turner, who held the second Chair in the School of Botany, from 1938 to 1973.
Eligibility: The Scholarship is open for award to a student undertaking a PhD in the School of Botany by research in the area of plant physiology, plant ecology or conservation plant biology.

Botany MacBain Research Scholarships in Biology

Eligibility: Candidates must be enrolled in a research higher degree (presently Master of Philosophy or PhD) in the Faculty of Science and must be carrying out research in Biology, having particular reference to Australian forms of life.
Selection Criteria: Scholarship rotates annually between the School of Botany, the Department of Zoology and the Department of Genetics.
The scholarship will be awarded to an eligible candidate recommended by a committee chaired by the appropriate head of department/school. Selection will be based on excellence, including:-

Donor: Established by the School of Botany Foundation. The prize was initiated by donations from friends, students and associates in 1997 in memory of the late Professor Robert Bruce Knox.
Eligibility: This prize is open to students in the School of Botany who are undertaking an honours degree or a research training program in the Master of Science (commencing from 2009).
Selection Criteria: Awarded to the student with the highest grade for the research project in either the Honours 4th year of the Bachelor of Science or the Master of Science (commencing from 2009).

Chemistry The Professor Kernot Research Scholarship in Chemistry

Donor: William Charles Kernot, BA, MA, MCE (Melb.), first professor of Engineering at the university, donated an amount in 1887 for the purpose of founding scholarships for the encouragement of the study of Physics and Chemistry. In 1908, William Charles Kernot donated a further amount for the encouragement of the study of Geology. In 2009, a supplementary donation was made from a bequest by Roderick James Esdaile, BSc (Melb.), PhD (Glasgow). There are three scholarships, one each in Chemistry, Physics and Earth Sciences.
