University Secretary's Department List of Awards, Scholarships and Prizes

List of Awards, Scholarships and Prizes

This List of Awards, Scholarships and Prizes lists the awards available in the current academic year to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Melbourne. It is intended to complement Faculty lists of awards, scholarships and prizes by providing a comprehensive list as a first point of consultation for students. This list replaces the Announcements Section of the University Calendar from 2002. It includes awards available to students either as annual gifts or as income from funds not held by the University as trustee. It is linked to the University trust records governing Prizes, Exhibitions, Scholarships and Bursaries, and other Endowments (University trust records under University Statute 10.3) where applicable.. The value of awards quoted is an approximation only and may be subject to variation. In particular, when the value of an award granted under trust funds is calculated on the net annual income of the fund, it cannot be known in advance. In these cases the value of the previous year's award is provided as a guide for students only.

Who do I contact to apply for an award, scholarship or prize?

For further information regarding awards, or to apply for an award, students should contact the person whose name appears in the list next to the relevant award, or the relevant Faculty Office.

Students should note that there are mainly two types of awards:

  1. merit-based awards; and
  2. application-based awards.

Merit-based awards are awarded to the students achieving the best result in a subject or course. Students do not need to apply for these awards.

Application-based awards require students to make an application. Where available, the List includes details about application forms and guidelines. In other cases the students should contact the person named in the List as the contact for the award or the relevant Faculty Office.

Bequests, memorial gifts, donations and sponsorships

Previous or intending donors, benefactors, their families, and professional advisors who would like to obtain information about application of past gifts, or about the University's current priority needs for financial support may contact - Director of Advancement, Advancement Office.
