Research Infrastructure Advisory Group

- Preamble
This new research advisory group will provide advice to the DVC Research. It has been established to facilitate an integrated whole of University approach to strategic planning and management of Research Infrastructure.
Research Infrastructure includes, but is not limited to:
- Information and Communications Technology infrastructure, including but not limited to networks, storage, disaster recovery, and identity and access management.
- Library services, including digitisation services, research collections and databases, research data and records management.
- Research facilities including laboratories and buildings where research is conducted.
- Animal housing.
- Instrumentation.
- Research safety, including hazardous materials and biohazards.
- Life sciences computational facility.
- National infrastructure partnerships, for example, Australian Social Sciences Data Archive - Melbourne node.
- Terms of Reference
2.1 To advise the DVC Research on the future strategic development of research infrastructure throughout the University.
2.2 To advise the DVC Research on strategies for securing external funds for research infrastructure, in particular, national and regional funding opportunities as they arise, for example, the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy.
2.3 To advise the DVC Research on operational planning, policy and management in relation to the provision of research infrastructure across the University.
2.4 To advise the DVC Research on the prioritisation of the investment in future Research Capital infrastructure and requirements.
2.5 To provide guidance and endorsement on:
- matters of general strategic significance in the provision of research infrastructure;
- guidelines for prioritisation of new Research Infrastructure projects and initiatives and associated funding;
- introduction and modification of Research Infrastructure policy.
2.6 To review:
- progress of major strategic research Infrastructure projects;
- value delivered by key Research Infrastructure projects upon completion;
- performance of Research Infrastructure delivery, including service level quality, and,
- policy and procedures for the management of safe research environments.
- Reporting
The eResearch Advisory Group convened by the Director eResearch, will advise and report to this group.

Representatives from 4 Faculties: 2 Associate Deans Research and 2 Faculty General Managers
Six Senior Researchers – to be nominated with due regard to a broad discipline mix
Co-opted members as required
The committee will meet a minimum of six times per year. Two additional meetings may be scheduled if required.
