The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) is accountable to the Vice-Chancellor for operational matters in relation to the international engagement of the University.
The forum that provides advice to inform the decisions of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) is the International Advisory Group (IAG). It provides strategic and policy advice in the context of the University’s desire to secure its position as a leading international university in the twenty-first century. The group provides advice on the co-ordination of the University’s international activities and monitors performance against its internationalisation targets.
Relationship to University Committees and Portfolio Heads
On advice from the IAG, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) may refer issues to University committees which have significant policy, resource or academic implications, or other portfolio heads for issues relevant to their portfolio.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) may establish further advisory groups to provide information and recommendations to IAG.
Membership
- Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) or nominee Chair
- Director, International
- Associate Deans International, being persons with leadership roles within faculties and graduate schools in relation to international activities
- Co-opted members as required
The Associate Director International Relations and Global Engagement Strategic Advisors may attend meetings to provide advice to the Group.
Terms of Reference
- 1. To provide advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) on the development of the international elements of ‘Growing Esteem’ and the University’s Strategic and Operational Plans, and monitor the University’s performance in this area.
- 2. To review policy and provide strategic advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) on international matters including:
- The development and implementation of an Internationalisation Plan,
- The development of University-wide strategies for international engagement and the implementation of a range of country/region specific plans for academic, community and entrepreneurial engagement;
- The establishment and cyclical review of bilateral and multilateral institutional agreements for academic cooperation and exchange;
- The development and oversight of priority international partnerships, and
- International developments and trends likely to impact upon the implementation of the University’s international activities and achievement of its international objectives.
- To monitor the involvement of the University in international consortia, in particular Universitas 21, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and the international activities of the Group of Eight, and to report to the Senior Executive on the development of those networks.
- To promote a common and shared understanding of internationalisation and international education across the University.
- To provide advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) on the development and oversight of research collaboration with international partners
- To provide advice to the Provost on proposals for the joint delivery of courses and the delivery of courses offshore.
Reporting
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) refers operational matters unable to be resolved at the portfolio level to Senior Executive, and provides a summary of decisions for the information of Senior Executive.
Decisions taken by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) and other information of interest to the University community will be communicated to the relevant stakeholders via means appropriate to the audience.
