eResearch Advisory Group

- Preamble
This new research advisory group will provide advice to the DVC (Research) and the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group. It has been established to facilitate an integrated whole of University approach to strategic planning and management of eResearch.
eResearch includes, but is not limited to:
- Information and Communications Technology infrastructure, including but not limited to networks, storage, servers, disaster recovery, and identity and access management.
- Library services, including digitisation services, research collections and databases, research data and records management.
- Life sciences computational facility.
- High Performance Computing
- National infrastructure partnerships e.g. Australian Social Sciences Data Archive - Melbourne node.
- Collaboration tools.
- Terms of Reference
2.1 To advise the DVC (Research) and the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group on operational planning, policy and management in relation to the provision of eResearch across the University.
2.2 To advise the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group on the prioritisation of the investment in future eResearch Capital and requirements
2.3 To review:
- progress of major strategic eResearch projects;
- value delivered by key eResearch projects upon completion; and
- performance of eResearch delivery, including service level quality
2.4 To advise the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group on the future strategic development of eResearch throughout the University
2.5 To provide guidance and endorsement on:
- matters of general strategic significance in the provision of eResearch;
- guidelines for prioritisation of new eResearch projects and initiatives and associated funding; and
- introduction and modification of eResearch policy.
2.6 To advise the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group on strategies for securing external funds for eResearch, in particular, national and regional funding opportunities as they arise, for example, the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy.
- Reporting
This advisory group will report to the Research Infrastructure Advisory Group.

The committee will meet a minimum of four times per year. Additional meetings may be scheduled if required.
