Cultural Collections Advisory Group

The Cultural Collections Advisory Group provides advice on policy and planning for the University’s 34 cultural collections and administers the Policy and Minimum Requirements for Management of Cultural Collections (approved by Council in 2006).
A Collections Subcommittee on operational matters, comprising representatives of all the University’s cultural collections, reports to the Committee.

Terms of Reference

To provide strategic advice to the DVC-UA on the management of the University’s cultural collections, and to monitor the University’s performance in this area, including:

  1. compliance with the Policy and Minimum Requirements for Management of Cultural Collections;
  2. conservation and preservation requirements of the collections;
  3. applications for funding and other resources to meet these conservation and preservation requirements, including liaison with the Russell and Mab Grimwade (Miegunyah) Fund;
  4. storage and administrative arrangements for each collection;
  5. general resourcing for the collections, including staffing arrangements;
  6. issues arising from audits of any of the collections;
  7. opportunities for obtaining financial and other support for the Cultural Collections, from sources within and outside the University;
  8. major acquisitions, including gifts allowing a tax deduction under the Cultural Gifts Program, and particularly any proposed acquisition which might place significant responsibilities, restrictions or liabilities on the University;
  9. Proposals for the deaccessioning of entire collections or substantial parts of collections, in accordance with the Policy and Minimum Requirements for Management of Cultural Collections;
  10. Proposals for the establishment of new collections.
