The Senior Vice-Principal is accountable to the Vice-Chancellor for the development and implementation of effective and efficient administrative polices and practices.

The Administrative Policies and Practices Group (APPG) provides advice to inform the decisions of the Senior Vice-Principal and his/her delegates. The group serves as a forum in which senior administrative managers from across the University provide advice on the wider implications and general acceptability of proposals for changes or additions to the administrative operations of the University and monitor the effectiveness of those operations and the policies that support them.

Relationship to University Committees and Portfolio Heads

On advice from the APPG, the Senior Vice-Principal may refer issues to University committees which have significant policy, resource or academic implications, or other portfolio heads for issues relevant to their portfolio.

The Senior Vice-Principal may establish further advisory groups to provide information and recommendations to APPG.

Terms of Reference

The group provides advice to the Senior Vice-Principal on:

  1. The deployment and coordination of administrative services generally across the University and actions that might be taken to improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
  2. Strategic and operational planning relating to administrative services including and the monitoring of performance against plan.
  3. Development, implementation and review of administrative policies and practices, including in relation to the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual, the Financial Policies and Procedures Manual and IT Policy and Procedures.
  4. Development, implementation and review of administrative rules and guidelines which apply generally to students, including but not limited to environmental health and safety and parking.
  5. Monitoring the effectiveness of University initiatives implemented to reduce administrative costs and improve efficiency.
  6. Monitoring the overall effectiveness of University administrative systems and processes.

The group also serves as a forum through which:

  1. The Executive Director, Property and Campus Services and Executive Director, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer receive coordinated feedback from budget divisions on priorities for the University’s annual infrastructure plan, and
  2. The Head of University Services receives advice on priorities for development of University enterprise systems.

Reporting

The Senior Vice-Principal refers operational matters unable to be resolved at the portfolio level to Senior Executive, and provides a summary of decisions for the information of Senior Executive.

Decisions taken by the Senior Vice-Principal, and other information of interest to the University community will be communicated to the relevant stakeholders via means appropriate to the audience.
