  1. Membership

President of the Academic Board
Vice-President , Academic Board or the Deputy Vice-President, Academic Board
Vice-Principal (Information Services)
Director, Information Management, Information Services
Vice-Principal and Academic Registrar
Four members of the Academic Board elected by the Academic Board for a term of two years; two members to retire each year
Up to four members of the Academic Board appointed as members of the Committee by the President of the Academic Board for a term of up to two years in order to take into account matters such as the balance of membership by discipline
One undergraduate student
One postgraduate student
Up to two additional women members, not being members of the Academic Board, nominated by the President of the Academic Board for a term of up to two years

  1. Chairperson

The Committee shall be chaired by a person appointed by the Academic Board.

  1. Terms of Reference

3.1 To recommend to the Academic Board policies with respect to the organisation and development of information services, resources and strategies in support of teaching and research in relation to both the University and other bodies with which it has agreements.

3.2 To advise the University Librarian on matters of library policy relating to user services and library resources and to approve changes to policy governing conduct in and the use of the library.

3.3 To advise on library budget submissions referred to the Planning and Budget Committee for the organisation, resources and services of the library.

3.4 To advise the Vice-Principal (Information) on the distribution of the annual materials vote to faculties and advise and on resources for library related services, having regard to the comprehensive, research-intensive nature of the University.

3.5 To report annually to Academic Board on plans in relation to the library and to oversee the implementation of that plan.

3.6 To receive reports and advice referred to Libraries Committee by library users committees and other advisory groups including those relating to the University of Melbourne Archives and the Grainger Museum.

3.7 To monitor the quality of library services and resources and ensure these are appropriate to academic programs, taking into account international developments and best practice in order to ensure that services and resources are of the highest possible quality and standards.

  1. Meetings

The Committee meets five times per year.
