1. Membership
President, Academic Board (or nominee)
Professor of Australian Indigenous Studies
Director, Melbourne Indigenous Partnerships Institute
Director, Centre for Indigenous Education
Provost or Pro-Vice Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) or nominee
Up to five academic staff nominated by the President of Academic Board (at least 3 indigenous) teaching or researching in Indigenous Studies at the University of Melbourne.One member of the Academic Programs Committee.
One Indigenous undergraduate student (representative of MUSU elected by Indigenous undergraduate students)
One Indigenous postgraduate student (representative of UMPA elected by Indigenous postgraduate students)The sub-committee may co-opt up to three additional members with specific expertise of value to the sub-committee.
Membership will be reviewed annually.
2. Chairperson
Academic Board must appoint a person to chair the Committee for a period of up to two years. A person so appointed will be eligible for re-appointment. The Chairperson will be a member of the committee in the category ‘Up to five academic staff nominated by the President of Academic Board ‘. Academic Board must also appoint a Deputy Chairperson, in consultation with the Chairperson.
3. Quorum
A quorum for the committee is 30% of the current membership.
4. Terms of Reference
4.1 To audit quality of teaching scores for Indigenous studies across the University and initiate action through established faculty processes to address quality of teaching scores when they are below agreed benchmarks.
4.2 To develop strategies that promote leadership, best practice and innovation in teaching and learning in Indigenous studies.
4.3 To provide ad hoc advice on the development of coursework proposals in Indigenous studies.
4.4 The committee will meet up to four times annually.
5. Reporting
The Indigenous Studies Teaching and Learning Programs Sub-Committee will report to Academic Programs Committee after each meeting.
6. Secretariat
The Academic Secretary, or nominee, will provide secretariat support to the committee.
