The Remuneration and Employment Conditions Committee of Council exercises governance responsibilities in the oversight of remuneration, staff conditions and benefits, and other matters relating to employment policy.
I Membership
The Chancellor
Six members appointed by the Council from amongst its external members
II Terms of Reference
The functions of the Remuneration and Employment Conditions Committee are –
- To advise Council on policy regarding workplace relations issues.
- Except where otherwise specifically delegated to the Committee, to make recommendations to Council on matters of strategic significance concerning remuneration and other employment conditions and staff benefits.
- In relation to senior staff, as defined in the delegations below, to consider and determine remuneration and conditions of employment in accordance with authorities delegated to it by Council.
To receive reports -
- on remuneration and employment determinations made by the Vice-Chancellor.
- on remuneration matters determined by designated University officers under delegated authority.
- To receive reports from the Vice-Chancellor and Provost on their annual review of the performance of Deans and other senior staff reporting to them.
- To advise the Vice-Chancellor on renewals of contracts of senior staff, as defined in the delegations below.
- To monitor compliance with employment legislation and University employment policies.
III Delegations
The Committee holds the following delegations:
- to determine the level of remuneration and conditions of employment for the offices of Vice-Chancellor (except as specified in Statute 2.4.3), Provost, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Pro- Vice-Chancellors, Vice-Principals, Deputy Principals, Deans, officers of the Academic Board, the Artistic Director of the Melbourne Theatre Company and other senior staff positions referred by the Vice-Chancellor.
