"standing resolution" means a resolution declared to be a standing resolution made by the Council, the Board or a faculty which is consistent with the powers of that body and which is not inconsistent with the statutes and regulations;".
This volume contains a consolidated and reordered list of standing resolutions as agreed by the Council at its meeting on 4 June 2007.
On 1 May 1995 the Council revoked numerous standing resolutions which were vested as regulations by virtue of Section 7(2) of the University Acts (Amendment) Act 1994 which came into effect on 1 January 1995. At its meeting on 18 December 1995 the Executive Committee of Council resolved to re-number Standing Resolutions 5.1 to 5.7 (both inclusive) 3.24 to 3.30 respectively, thus consolidating resolutions other than those prescribing the terms of reference for Council committees into one chapter, Chapter 3.
Standing resolutions made by Council after 3 April 1995 were added sequentially as they were made. The original groupings within the third chapter (into resolutions regarding Council, its officers and operations on the one hand, and general University policies on the other) were lost.
At its Planning Conference in February 2007, Council agreed to amend several out-of-date references to University policies, bodies and officers and to re-arrange the resolutions with the effect that resolutions regarding Council are held in a separate chapter to those setting out general University policies.
