Cultural and Community Relations Advisory Group

General Purpose of the Group

  1. The Cultural and Community Relations Advisory Group is established by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Development) and operates through the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (University Relations). It receives an allocation, annually, from the Finance Committee and makes recommendations to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Development) or his/her delegate regarding what University-level cultural and community activities are to be funded. The funding of cultural and community activities at faculty and departmental level is a matter for deans and heads of departments.
  2. The Advisory Group, which reports annually to Council through Finance Committee, has the authority to make forward commitments for up to three years.

Membership

  1. The Advisory Group is chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (University Relations). Members are appointed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Development) from amongst senior staff with expertise in community and cultural relations, and the Chair consults other officers as appropriate.

Functions of the Group

  1. The Cultural and Community Relations Advisory Group is responsible for-
    1. preparing for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Development), plans for ensuring that University-level cultural and community activities are consistent with the values and strategic objectives of the University, achieve public prominence and are effectively coordinated;
    2. making recommendations to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Development) regarding what University-level cultural and community activities should be funded from funds allocated by Finance Committee;
    3. the development of guidelines and the implementation of procedures for the making of the recommendations referred to in 4 (b) above on an open and contestable basis;
    4. monitoring the effectiveness of University-level cultural and community activities and reporting annually to and through the Finance Committee to Council on those activities.
