Student services

The University has identified up to 60 current students who, according to their permanent home addresses, live in areas affected by the December 2004 earthquake and tsunami.

Students in the affected areas at the time of the tsunami should email tsunami-update@unimelb.edu.au to let the University know that they are safe.

International students affected by the tsunami should also email tsunami-update@unimelb.edu.au if they need advice from the University. This assistance will vary depending on individual student circumstances and may include:

  • counselling
  • more flexible course enrolment and leave of absence arrangements
  • extended loan facilities
  • accommodation support
  • direct financial support
  • fee bursaries.

Flexible course enrolment procedures will be implemented so that students wishing to assist with the relief effort or the subsequent rebuilding phase may do so without disadvantage to their enrolment arrangements.
