Disposal Advice Service
Inherited records that you don't know what to do with?
Have boxes of records lurking in a storage area gathering dust?
Contact the Disposal Advice Service and we can help!
What is the Disposal Advice Service?
Records disposal is the process of determining what records need to be retained as archives and what can be destroyed. We have records Retention and Disposal Authorities (also known as records disposal schedules) to help you with this but sometimes these Authorities on their own may not be enough, sometimes you need more help with this process.
We have now developed a service where we come to you and provide you with specific advice about your disposal needs.
Through a short consultation, we can provide you with advice and the steps you need to take in order to get those records under control.
You might even be able to dispose of some of them immediately. Or we might be able to take some of them off your hands if they are permanent records according to one of the University's Retention and Disposal Authorities (Disposal Schedules).
Who should use the Disposal Advice Service?
Any staff member across the University of Melbourne is entitled to use the Disposal Advice Service. We can only provide advice regarding University of Melbourne records though; records created by non-University organisations (except where the University has dealings with them) are not University records and are outside our purview.
How do I access the service?
